MODELLTEST

German Modelltest online: Goethe and telc A1–B2

What a Modelltest is

A Modelltest (also called a Modellsatz or Übungstest) is a practice set with the same structure as the real exam: the same number of Teile, the same task types and the same timing. Its purpose is not to teach you something new but to let you try out exam day in advance: whether the time is enough, in which Teil you lose points, and how close you are to the pass mark.

Official practice sets are free on the exam organisers' websites. The Goethe-Institut publishes practice materials for A1, A2 and B1.[4][5][6] telc offers a full Übungstest with answers and audio as a free download on its A1 and A2 pages.[7][8] The number of such sets is limited, so most people look for extra practice.

What the Modelltest on Prufling covers

  • 8 full Modellsatz papers for each exam. Each one contains all the modules: Lesen, Hören, Schreiben and Sprechen, and for telc Sprachbausteine too. The Modellsatz papers do not repeat each other: each has different tasks.
  • Modellsatz 1 is free. The other 7 come with Pro.
  • A whole exam or a single module. You can take a full Modellsatz or just one module (for example, Hören) in the exam order.
  • Score and grade. Lesen, Hören and Sprachbausteine are marked automatically and immediately. AI marks your Schreiben and Sprechen answers against the exam criteria and gives feedback in Uzbek, English or Russian. AI scores are estimates, not official results.
  • Readiness overview. You see where you stand in each module in one place.

Which parts each exam has

To take a Modelltest properly, first know the structure of your exam. Goethe A1 and A2 are single exams: the points are counted together. Goethe B1, on the other hand, is modular: each module is marked separately and can be taken separately.[1][2][3]

ExamLesenHörenSchreibenSprechen
Goethe A125 min., Teil 1–3~20 min., Teil 1–320 min., Teil 1–2~15 min., in a group
Goethe A230 min., Teil 1–4~30 min., Teil 1–430 min., Teil 1–2~15 min. in pairs
Goethe B165 min., 5 Teile~40 min., 4 Teile60 min., 3 Teile~15 min. in pairs + 15 min. preparation

In the telc exams Lesen and Schreiben (A1, A2) are given in one block of time, and at B1 and B2 there is a separate Sprachbausteine part (grammar and vocabulary). In detail: telc A1 and A2, telc B1, telc B2.

How to take a Modelltest

  • Real conditions. Put your phone away, do not use a dictionary, and do not pause or replay the audio.
  • Time yourself by the official schedule. The time for copying answers is part of the exam time.
  • Analyse your mistakes. After you see your score, go back to every wrong answer: was it a word you did not know, a text you misunderstood, or too little time?
  • Do not repeat the same set. The second time you will remember the answers, and the score will not show your real level.

How many Modellsatz papers for each exam

The tasks cover Lesen, Hören, Sprachbausteine (telc), Schreiben and Sprechen, in the format of each Teil. They are not official materials but original tasks written to match the format.

When to register for the exam, based on your results

Compare your Modelltest result with the official pass rule:

  • Goethe A1: at least 60 out of 100 points, and all parts must be taken.[1]
  • Goethe A2: at least 60 in total, of which at least 45 in the written part and at least 15 in the oral part.[2]
  • Goethe B1: a modular exam; each module is worth 100 points, and the pass mark is 60 points.[3]

A practical approach:

  1. Take each module in real time, without pausing and without a dictionary.
  2. Convert the result to a percentage and compare it with 60%. Look at several results from different sets, not just one.
  3. Find out which Teil costs you the most points and spend the next week on that Teil.
  4. Do not forget Schreiben and Sprechen: in A1 and A2 they count towards the total score, and in A2 the oral part has its own minimum.
  5. Register once your result is steadily above the pass mark in all modules. At the Goethe-Institut Tashkent places open on the 1st of every month, so plan the date in advance: The Goethe exam in Tashkent.

A score on a practice test does not guarantee the result of the real exam. It only shows which parts you are ready for and which you are not.
